A/B Testing QR Codes

8 min read

Pro Feature: A/B Testing is available on Pro (3 tests) and Business (10 tests) plans.

A/B testing lets you compare different landing pages or destinations to find what works best for your audience. With a single QR code, you can test multiple variants and let data drive your decisions.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing (also called split testing) is a method of comparing two or more versions of something to determine which performs better. With Quality QR, you can:

  • Test different landing pages with the same QR code
  • Compare conversion rates between variants
  • Automatically split traffic based on your preferences
  • Make data-driven decisions about your campaigns

How It Works

1

Create a Test

Navigate to A/B Tests in your dashboard and click "New Test".

2

Define Variants

Add two or more destination URLs you want to compare.

3

Set Traffic Split

Choose how to distribute traffic between variants (e.g., 50/50).

4

Deploy Your QR Code

Print and distribute your QR code. Traffic is automatically split.

5

Analyze Results

Monitor performance and declare a winner when you have enough data.

What to Test

Here are some ideas for effective A/B tests:

Landing Pages

Compare different page designs, headlines, or layouts

Offers

Test different discounts, promotions, or incentives

Call-to-Actions

Compare "Buy Now" vs "Learn More" or other CTAs

Content Types

Test video vs text, short vs long form content

Traffic Allocation

You can customize how traffic is split between variants:

50/50 Split

Equal distribution for fair comparison. Best for most tests.

80/20 Split

Send most traffic to your proven winner while testing a new variant.

Custom Split

Divide traffic across 3+ variants with custom percentages.

Declaring a Winner

When your test has collected enough data, you can declare a winner:

  • Wait for statistical significance (usually 100+ scans per variant)
  • Review scan counts and any conversion data you're tracking
  • Click "Declare Winner" to end the test and route all traffic to the winner
  • The winning URL becomes the permanent destination for the QR code
